[It's been a long few days, back to back of work. He's caught naps in between but that's mostly it, and now he's just grateful that he has the rest of the day to himself. He pushes himself up the three flights of stairs through the store today, grabbing three books from the shelves without paying. He'll return them, he silently promises, as he trudges up the last few steps. He just needs something to put him out later.

He unlocks the door to his apartment and steps inside, dumping the books on the side opening to the kitchen as he shrugs off his vest.]

Ebony, come here, I'll feed you.

[Riku briefly ducks into the kitchen to put some fresh dry food in her bowl; he washes his hands and then walks into the living room, destined to flop himself down on his couch.]

[drums his fingers for a moment, still. thoughtful.]

Always a worthy hope? [he takes the plate in hand and stands up, heading for the kitchen again.]

[He looks up as the man gets up, shrugging, sipping his tea.]

Everything deserves a chance, right?

[depositing plate in kitchen.] A kindhearted way to think.

Is it?

In comparison to some. [he comes to the kitchen door and stands in the frame, folding his arms and giving Riku a nod.]

[He looks over and slowly stands, heading back into the kitchen for another refill.] I'm surprised you're being honest.

Obvious, more like. [he nods.] Good night, Riku.

[What follows is almost blurted out awkwardly.] Thank you.

[raises his eyebrows.]

For the company, despite your reasons for being here.

[...a somewhat lazy smile.]

Don't tell me your starved for companionship.

Yes, I'm such a lonely little darkling, Zexion.

You have your cat.

I know. She keeps me company on my sad, lonely nights. [Pours himself another cup of tea, trying to suppress his laughter.]

Good to know. [so... so dry.]

[good, he'll just wait until you're done sighing, and then he'll reach out and take zexion's chin gently, quite closer than where he was standing before.] Is it?

[tension visible suddenly, around his eye. his mouths thins slightly. he doesn't unfold his arms or shift away.]

You may have noticed, I have a tendency to collect information.

[He's glad they're the same height. He nearly brushes foreheads with him, raising an eyebrow.]

You're not very subtle with it.

[watching levelly back. still not shifting away.]

For a surprising number of people, it works anyway.

Some people are blind.

[And then he brushes their lips together briefly, other hand actually keeping Zexion there for the moment.]

[that's correct, he'd say, but you sort of have his mouth occupied here, Riku. he's still quite still, quite tense. parsing this and flicking through possible responses. your Zexion has frozen and now must be rebooted.]

[And that's exactly how he wants it to be, for the moment. He strengthens the kiss only briefly before he pulls away enough to just look at him, to look him in the eye.]

Maybe you need another cat.

[Well, that was the closest thing to a snarky reply as he can get. He gives him a deadpan look.]

...Funny. It's not bad enough that I look after everyone else like they're pets?

['course. he has to reclaim some ground here. he still hasn't moved away though.]
