[It's been a long few days, back to back of work. He's caught naps in between but that's mostly it, and now he's just grateful that he has the rest of the day to himself. He pushes himself up the three flights of stairs through the store today, grabbing three books from the shelves without paying. He'll return them, he silently promises, as he trudges up the last few steps. He just needs something to put him out later.

He unlocks the door to his apartment and steps inside, dumping the books on the side opening to the kitchen as he shrugs off his vest.]

Ebony, come here, I'll feed you.

[Riku briefly ducks into the kitchen to put some fresh dry food in her bowl; he washes his hands and then walks into the living room, destined to flop himself down on his couch.]

Bought, or raided? {another cherry.}

The latter. I've bought them once, stolen twice.

What a rebel. {he spits out the pit into his fingers and puts it on the plate.} Do you enjoy the thrill?

I'm more interested in what's in the orchard at night. The fruit's just compensation.

Ah, of course. What have you seen?

There's a monster there that's...like the mother of the rest. They protect her and she has her own throne made out of other monster pieces.

This place has quite the grim slant sometimes. {eats another cherry. :T}

This world's entirely different at night. [Another sip, and then, almost nonchalantly:] She's the reason why Xehanort woke up again in the first place.

{a pause. his visible eye narrows slightly.}

You engaged?

It's hard to avoid her unless your only objective is to steal something quickly. Do you remember that article a few months back about a break-in at the Orchard?

[He reaches over and plucks a cherry out of his hands.]

{raises his eyebrow.}

I did not take all of them, you know. And yes, I do.

Did I say anything? [He pops it in his mouth; the pit comes out a few moments later and he briefly swipes his tongue over his index finger.] That was a group of us. The mother nearly killed two of my friends.

How fortunate that she didn't.

[He shoots him a glare.] I will spill that tea down your jacket if you say that again. They're not even from our world.

{smirks, his eyes narrowing somewhat.} Do you go alone, now?

You'll find that's a trend with me, doing things on my own. [And he takes another two cherries.]

That, I could see being safer with you alone. If they were less skilled...

Less skilled or not... You're more obvious when there's more people. [He actually gives a slight smirk at that.] But it's good to know that you're confident in my abilities.

Are you flattered?

Maybe. [He smothers the widening smirk with his mug as he takes another sip of his tea.]

{laaaauughingggggg.}

[Pause.] ...What's so funny?

Must you ask?

You usually only laugh when you find something ironically amusing.
