[It's been a long few days, back to back of work. He's caught naps in between but that's mostly it, and now he's just grateful that he has the rest of the day to himself. He pushes himself up the three flights of stairs through the store today, grabbing three books from the shelves without paying. He'll return them, he silently promises, as he trudges up the last few steps. He just needs something to put him out later.

He unlocks the door to his apartment and steps inside, dumping the books on the side opening to the kitchen as he shrugs off his vest.]

Ebony, come here, I'll feed you.

[Riku briefly ducks into the kitchen to put some fresh dry food in her bowl; he washes his hands and then walks into the living room, destined to flop himself down on his couch.]

Foreshadowing?

[There's a pause and then he chuckles softly.]

I guess so. It's a shame I didn't pick up on it sooner.

{humor? oh, good.}

Ah, so many tragedies could have been prevented.

[That's not funny. Riku gives him a glance and then he straightens as the kettle begins to whistle, reaching over to click the burner off. He moves the water to one of the cooler spots and picks up Zexion's cup first.]

History repeats itself, I suppose.

{his expression is bland, semi-supercilious, as is pretty much normal for him.} Would you say you're happy with how things turned out?

You're asking all the hard questions today. [He's not protesting, though. Instead, he just pours the water into the mug.]

I've resigned myself. If I could change it, would I? Absolutely.

And you're answering all of them freely.

You haven't asked anything yet that I wouldn't answer under any other circumstances.

[He slips his hand under the hot mug and hands it to Zexion, handle towards him.]

Even small things are important. {he takes the mug and holds it under his chin, inhaling the steam}

What, is your plan to ask me small, seemingly unimportant questions until you have enough to figure me out?

[Riku pours himself his own mug, grabbing the small chain link and pulling it a few times.]

{smile.} I prefer to hear answers.

Of course you do. [He picks up his mug.] Do you want anything else while we're standing here? Food?

I wouldn't want to impose too much.

A simple 'yes' or 'no' would be nice, you know. There's food in the fridge, stuff in the cabinet... Take your pick. Follow your nose.

Allowing me to rifle through your stores? How friendly of you.

[He shrugs neatly, muting a yawn with the rim of his mug.]

Better to cover all my bases before you start asking me to fix you a sandwich and soup later.

Such hospitality. I do appreciate it.

[Sips.]

Is that a yes, then?

Do you have fruit?

[A long pause.]

There's cherries in the fridge. But you'll have to eat them soon, before the sun goes down.

{eyebrow rises.} Generous of you.

Wouldn't want you to get sick.

[He'll admit it. He passes him on his way out to the living room, sipping his tea.]

{he is just going to quietly open some cupboards here and nose around a bit before actually collecting some cherries and following him out.}

[He ponders taking the couch and stretching out so he can't sit there, but he is trying to be polite- Whatever. He sits on one end of the couch anyway, sipping his tea and looking a little more relaxed. Riku reaches out as Ebony slips by to stroke her but she quickly turns her tail and scoots off.]

How long have you been here, Zexion? In the city, I mean. [He doesn't want to know how long you've been sitting here in his apartment.]

Why do you ask? {he pops a cherry in his mouth, spitting out the pit after a moment on the side of the little plate he arranged.}
